Year 1 News- Term 2 Week 1

Welcome back! Hope you all had a well-rested and relaxing autumnal break. We have dived straight into new exciting opportunities for learning this week and both Staff and Children are excited for a festive and fun filled term 2. This week in PSHE we have begun our theme of the term which is celebrating difference. We looked at things we have in common with our friends and what makes us ‘the same’ among our classmates. We did this so sensibly and came up with some lovely comparisons.

In RE we have been learning about Diwali and the story of Rama and Sita and have produced some beautiful decorative ornaments using expert arts and craft skills involving recycled CD’s, gems and stickers.

In Maths – we have taken the opportunity to revisit some areas from the end of term 1, consolidating our learning of addition and subtraction, number bonds to 10 and number facts to 5. We are becoming experts on our number facts to 5 and getting speedier with our number bonds! Please see links below for some ideas including games and programme links to further strengthen learning within these areas.

In English we have written some fantastic holiday recounts to our popular year 1 book character ‘Beegu’ to inform him of all of the exciting activities and trips the children experienced over the half term break. We used full stops and capital letters to impress him with our brilliant punctuation accompanied by beautiful illustrations. We also spoke about how to keep safe and sensible and produced some lovely posters in preparation for bonfire night about firework safety.

We wish you and your children a lovely weekend and hope you are as excited as us for all Term 2 has to bring. Please see key dates for upcoming events over this term outside year 1 classes on notice boards.
