Reception News – Term 2 Week 4

Another week of fun in Reception! This week the children have continued to practise the Nativity. They have all been chosen and been given parts and some children have been practising saying their lines. We provide most of the costumes but might ask you to provide leggings or other bits of clothing to wear under the outfits. We will send letters home next week to let you know. I’m sure you won’t want to miss the Nativity performance, so please make sure it is in your dairy for 11th December 2019 at 9.30 am. Please can you supply a named ‘Bag for Life’ for your child’s costume by Monday 2nd December. In RE this week, the children have continued to learn about the story of Christmas. As a whole class, we have also written it using the phonics we have learnt.

The children have learnt qu and z this week during their phonics sessions. Alongside this, they have learnt the common exception words we, me and be. Please support your child to learn the common exception words we have learnt so far; the, I, no, go, to, into, he, she, we, me and be. Next week, we will be assessing the children’s phonics they have learnt so far instead of reading with them individually.

In maths this week, the children have continued to explore numbers to 10. They have compared tens frames and bead strings, as well as matching the representation to the numeral. The children have also been introduced to 2D shapes. We have been naming them and talking about their properties. We have counted how many sides and corners 2D shapes have. The children also went around the school on a shape hunt and recorded what they saw. The children realised there are shapes all around us! Please support your child’s learning by spotting shapes with them in the environment.

The children have also been enjoying using their mark making skills to create some (secret!) Christmas artwork.
