Year One News- Term 2, Week 5

Week 5 has been lovely for Year One. The Christmas decorations are up and we are in the festive mood! We have learnt using a cross curricular approach this week combining our maths, English and Geography to look at position and direction including quarter, half and full turns, looking at routes and maps, including writing our own directions and our favourite places to visit in Henleaze. We have also designed and built our own Henleaze town out of a selection of junk modelling materials in a special DT session with help from some of our grown-ups. HUGE thank you to those that helped assist our building and for the junk modelling donations!

In our PSHE learning this week we have continued to focus on what it takes to be a super friend to others and how we may feel if others aren’t so kind to us and what we can do who we can talk to about this in School. In RE after looking at advent and the Christmas story we are looking this week at Christmas around the world and looking at alternate ways Christmas is celebrated around the globe.

In phonics this week we are continuing to recap and revisit our long vowel sounds as well as looking particularly at ‘ow’ (ihn clown) and ‘ou’ (in mouse) as well as ‘oy’ (in boy) and ‘oi’ (in coin). Please continue to support your children in their phonics learning by having a go at the spellings and sounds printed weekly in their orange sounds and words book.

Have a lovely weekend- 2 more weeks to go!
