Year 2 news – Term 2, Week 6

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Year 2 (and not just because of Mrs Larner’s jumpers)! We had a wonderful time watching the Reception children perform their nativity play. The Year Twos made a respectful and attentive audience and loved the singing and amazing costumes. We have also been learning about St. Nicholas and Christmas stories in our reading comprehension tasks and have been getting crafty making Christmas cards and decorations.

In maths this week we have had another look at division and multiplication, looking particularly at how the inverse rule and solving word problems. All of our maths lessons have an element of reasoning, allowing the children to apply and explain their understanding.

The children completed an assessment paper at the end of this week and wowed us with their ability to read and draw out information from complex problems.

In English, we have applied all we have learnt about story writing to write our own version of The Princess and the Pea. The children loved having the opportunity to put their own creative spin on the story, whilst maintaining their high quality sentence structure and vocabulary.

Looking ahead to next week:

WEDNESDAY – Please join us for the carol service at 2pm, St. Peter’s Church. Thank you to everyone who has signed up to help us on the walk! Children will also have their Christmas lunch at dinner time.

THURSDAY – Party day! Children may come to school in their party clothes. In the afternoon they will see the fabulous and well-rehearsed staff panto before enjoying their party feast and some games. Thank you if you have already signed up to bring in some party food!

FRIDAY – Christmas Jumper Day! Children may wear non-school uniform with a festive theme. Please remember to bring in your donation!
