Year 2 News – Term 3, Week 2

Another busy week in Year 2!

In English, we have continued our focus on ‘The Way Back Home’. The children used story maps to help them to retell the story over a series of lessons. They showed such enthusiasm for re-creating this quirky, funny and heart-warming text. We set them frequent challenges to help improve their writing and they also had a go at reviewing and each others work as part of the editing process. We were so impressed with the thoughtful and encouraging feedback they gave to one another.

In maths, our main learning has been about fractions with an additional focus on perfect presentation in our shiny new maths books! We moved on from finding halves, quarters and thirds of shapes to finding fractions of numbers. The children took tremendous care drawing bar models to help them solve these problems and have shown great motivation to share out larger numbers.

We had a lot of fun in PE this week with our focus on aiming. We tried our hand at indoor croquet and curling to help develop understanding of force and control when aiming at a target.

The children really enjoyed our RE focus for the week, which was people in our lives who give us guidance and inspiration. We shared some lovely class discussions about how friends, family members and club leaders help them to make good choices, learn new skills, and strive to be better. We were so impressed by the maturity of the children’s ideas and by their appreciation for special people in their lives.

Thank you to everyone who has signed up to help with the parent project for this term! Sign up sheets are on class noticeboards and spaces are unlimited so please do join us!
