Year 2 News – Term 3, Week 3

We have been busy learning all about space this week with our focus on non-fiction writing. We have examined our class space books to find the main components of non-fiction texts and have use these components (labelled diagrams, captions and paragraphs) to make ‘Amazing Space’ fact files.

The children have become mines of information about space and were brilliant at drawing out information from books to use in their own writing.

In geography, we have continued our learning about islands and mainland, with a focus on St. Lucia. The children imagined that they were on holiday on the island and wrote postcards describing the physical features, wildlife and people they had encountered.

In maths, we have continued our work on fractions, progressing on to word problems. We have practised picking out the important information from the problems and converting the information into block diagrams to find solutions. We have seen massive improvement with the presentation of maths work and are very proud of the children for their hard work!

We are super excited about our Lost Words week next week! Please remember to bring in warm coats every day and wellies can be left on pegs for the week.
