Year 2 News – Term 3, Week 5

Wow! This felt like such a long and busy week in Year 2! But what an amazing week for hard work, perseverance and super behaviour.

In English, we introduced a new text ‘If All the World Were…’ by Joseph Coelho and Allison Colpoys. This is a beautiful story that uses similies, metaphors and beautiful illustrations to express the complex emotions associated with loss.

The children took part in a number of activities encouraging them to echo the poetic and metaphoric language of the text. They produced some absolutely beautiful ideas, for example: “The beautiful springtime and flowers will bring you joy for the future.”, “Mix bright feelings and paint over dark and sad places.” , “Beautiful memories in your mind should make you happy”.

We have also been learning to use possessive apostrophes so keep an eye out for these in reading books and encourage your child to use them is they are writing at home.

For maths this week we have had an in depth look at some reasoning and arithmetic maths questions. It is important for the children to recognise different types of problem and to go through the process of solving problems methodically. We encourage them to recognise when number facts can be used and to always use maths pictures to support their calculations.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our parent project – clay rockets! The children had a wonderful time and made fantastic rockets of all shapes and sizes. The clay is air-drying so please allow them to dry at home and paint them if you wish!

Please remember our space dress up day is on Thursday in the final week. Friday will be a non-school uniform day (with donations for FHIS). Remember to bring in any homeworks for our exhibition at the end of the week.
