Reception News – Term 3 Week 6

We have loved meeting all of the children’s teddy bears this week! The children have really enjoyed having them in school. They have drawn some (very cute!) portraits of their bears using pastels. The children looked really carefully at their bears and used their observational skills. In writing this week, the children have written a description of their bears. The bears will be retuned on Friday afternoon to their homes after the Teddy Bears picnic! The children enjoyed eating honey sandwiches and some bear shaped crisps too.

In phonics this week, the children have learnt the trigraph ‘ure’ and the digraph ‘er’. We have continued to recap by reading and writing the tricky words in Phase 2 and 3. Please support your child at home by recapping these sounds and applying their phonics knowledge when reading with them daily. Please also remember to write in their reading record, we love to hear how they are getting on with the book.

In maths this week, we have been recapping numbers to 20. We have focused on more and one less and number ordering as well as addition and subtraction number sentences and stories. Over the holidays, please continue to reinforce numbers to 20 with your children. Some ideas include: counting and sharing objects between 2 people, counting steps as you walk up or down them, combining two groups of objects (sticks, leaves, toys, cars, dinosaurs etc) and writing an addition number sentence to match it, continue to look for 2D and 3D shapes in the environment, counting food (e.g. an orange or smarties) and eating one piece at a time, counting back as you do.

Outside each classroom is a timetable for parent helpers to sign up to support the children using ICT equipment and another to be a mystery reader in your child’s class. If you are free, please sign up. Thank you in advance!

Thank you for all of the 2simple observations that we have received. It’s so lovely to see so many parents engaging with their child’s learning! If you have not yet made an observation, you DO NOT need to log in. Just send an email containing a photo and a comment (could be a sentence or a couple) to inbox@2buildaprofile.com . Please send this from the email address that you have received the 2buildaprofile emails from previously as this will ensure it is linked directly with your child. If you are not sure which one this is, please ask your child’s class teacher.
