Year 2 News – Term 3, Week 6

We have had such a lovely final week of term in Year 2!

In maths, we have been learning about 2D and 3D shapes. We enjoyed going for a shape hunt around the school and are super at naming different shapes. For 2D shapes, we have learnt about the number of vertices (corners) and sides shapes have. For 3D, we have looked at their faces, edges and vertices. We enjoyed folding shapes to find lines of symmetry and practised ‘conferencing’ with a partner to compare the properties of shapes.

In English, we have continued using ‘If all the World Were…’ as our text. We used words and memories linked to special objects to make a word bank of abstract nouns (e.g. sorrow, fear, misery) and verbs. We then used our word banks to write beautiful poems about how special memories can bring comfort. We used the repeated set of words (taken from the text) to create stanzas.

A Poem from Class 7

The children have also practised performing their poems to the class, thinking about using a clear, confident voice with plenty of expression.

Thursday was our space dress up day! We had such an array of different outfits all celebrating the excitement and wonder of space. We also shared our homework for the term on Friday and were wowed by the amazing fact files, stories, rockets and other wonderful things created at home. The children were so proud of their achievements and were very appreciative of each others work. Thank you everyone for the support with the homework projects this term.

Looking ahead to next term; we have a packed first couple of weeks. Please remember:
Thursday 27th is our trip to ‘We the Curious’. Please act ASAP if we are still awaiting your payment. Please check your class noticeboard to see if any more helpers are required.
Friday 28th is Open Morning (9.10 – 10.10am). Please join us to see your child’s wonderful work.
Parents’ Evenings are the following week on Tuesday and Thursday after school. We look forward to seeing you then to discuss your child’s progress.

We hop you have a wonderful and restful half term!
