Reception Home Learning w/c 06/07/2020

Welcome back to week 6 of term 6. Thank you for all your hard work at home and in school last week. We really love seeing all the photographs and observations of the children’s learning.

This week we are continuing our topic of ‘Journeys’. We will start looking at the story ‘The Journey’ By Aaron Becker. Click here to watch Mrs Fricker reading the story. Please encourage them to talk about what is happening in the story and what they think may happen next.

N.B. we will again specify which activities we will be doing in school and which we would like you to do at home.  Remember, if your child is in school you do not need to send us observations of school based activities otherwise please continue to do so as before.

Story Time

Writing Tasks

We will be doing the writing task in school.

This term we have read lots of different stories and thought about lots of different types of journey: The journey of our lives, Journeys we remember, Journeys that we are going to make, Real journeys and Imaginary journeys.

This week we are reading the book ‘Journey’ by Aaron Becker. The children in KS1 have been using this book all term and we are using it to finish our topic. There are no words to this story, instead you need to use your imagination and think ‘What is the little girl going  to find when she goes through the red door? What journey will she go on?

We would like you to write your own story about what you might find through your own red door.

If you can,  write 3 sentences: one for each part of your story: the  beginning, the middle and the end.

Dont forget to think about all the things that make a good sentence. Use your ‘Every time we write’ sheet.

Number Formation

Please do this activity at home

  • Find the Number formation activity sheet in the shared folder – this week we are practicing our numbers 2-9.

Find more fine motor support and activities in the shared folder.

Mathematics Tasks

  • Daily number games on Number Gym: Please login and click ‘Early Maths’. You will need to enter your personal login. Click here to see instructions to log onto Number Gym. Continue to explore the games we have previously signposted for you.
  • Writing numerals to 0-20.
  • Count to 100 and sing along to this video. Click here

You can do the following activities on a walk, in the car etc.

  • Daily counting to 20/Daily counting back from 20.
  • Daily 1 more/1 less to 20. (E.g. 1 more than 3 is __ / 1 less than 12 is __)

This weeks focus: Subtraction

These activities will be done in school:

  • In the shared folder, find ‘Subtraction using part-part whole’. We are suggesting that you look at the sheet and use it as a guide to support your child to understand part-part whole and its relationship with subtraction. Make a part-part whole model and write number sentences that match your model. Alternatively you can work through the sheet with your child.
    • E.g. 8 as the whole and 2 and 6 as the parts.
    • 6 + 2 = 8
    • 2 + 6 = 8
    • 8 – 2 = 6
    • 8 – 6 = 2
  • Find the ‘Subtraction word problems’ in the shared folder. Work through these with your child. Encourage them to count back. They can use objects or the number tracks in the shared folder to help them if they find it difficult to count back.

Please do these activities at home:

  • Work through the ‘Subtraction from 10’ or ‘Subtraction from 20’ sheet in the shared folder. You can choose the one that suits your child best. Encourage them to start with the first number and count back to find the answer. There is also a number line to support them.
  • Using items at home, make up your own subtraction number sentences for your child to answer. Encourage your child to count backwards from the starting number. They could use a number track (in shared folder) if needed. Encourage them to record the number sentences using the subtraction and equals signs.
  • In the shared folder, find the ‘Subtraction colouring’ and ‘Subtraction colouring from 20’. Work out the answer and colour the flower/snake in!

Understanding the World

This activity will be done in school and at home

  • In our writing this week we are thinking about what the little girl is going  to find when she goes through the red door. Can you draw a map or a picture of the place your story was about e.g. desert or cold place.
  • If anything you started to plant at the beginning of term 5 has started to grow,we would love you to send in some pictures of your growing.

Expressive Arts and Design

This activity will be done in school and at home.

  •  If you had a magic door, where might it take you? Why not make a door and you can use collage, paint, drawing or any creative means to design your own journey of what you might see if you opened your magic door?

PSHE

Due to the importance of well-being this can be done at home or in school.

This week we are thinking of ways that we can stay positive and how we can look forward to our next journey to Year 1. We then want to continue to think about the importance of talking about how we are feeling and continuing with our kindness challenge.

It is important to find ways we can stay positive, why not try this photo challenge. This will help to create a positive attitude and also give a purpose to one part of the day.

We want you all to look forward to your next class with confidence. As you look forward to your next class, you might feel unsure about some things. If you, or a friend, feel like this, listen to this story and have a think about the character of the Mouse: The Lion inside

Growth Mindset Discussion Questions

What other strategies could the Mouse try?

How did you think the Mouse would solve his problem?

Does the Mouse have a fixed or growth mindset? Why do you think that?

Do you think the Mouse felt afraid of trying something new?

Brave poem poster

We want to continue to speak about how we are feeling, this week when we are thinking about how feelings change. Check out this rainbow mood tracker activity. Our kindness challenge this week is looking at A to Z of kindness. Have discussions with your family about ways you can be kind.
