Some of the Henleaze Infant School
Every year each class elects a boy and a girl to represent their class on the School Council. Reception children join half way through the year. We usually meet once a term to talk about things that are important to us. The minutes are printed and kept in folders so classes can talk about them. Our photos are on the board in the entrance hall and on the website. We put the minutes in 'Recent Events' on the school website for everyone to read.
At the beginning of a topic, Year groups will often help to introduce it by having a WOW day. This can involve dressing up and engaging in activities connected to the topic. Sometimes visitors come in to help as well.
Regular visits to a variety of different venues are planned during the school year. These are often linked to the Curriculum and topics. Examples include: Castles, zoo, parks, theatres, seaside, farms, museums etc.
We have performances by theatre companies in our school hall. These can include pantomimes, science plays and puppet productions.
These include ‘Life Skills Educational mobile classroom, storytellers, magicians, clergy, police, firefighters, kite making, Explorer Dome to name but a few.
People in the Community Week
One week in the year, parents are invited to come into school and talk to the children about their jobs. Reception children usually focus on adults who work within the school. These are excellent opportunities for the children to find out about the world of work.
This takes place once a year with a staff agreed focus. Examples of previous weeks include:- Healthy Fun Week, Art Week, Environment Week.
