Phonics
This week we will be starting revision of Phase 4. In year 1 we start with a revision of sounds taught in Reception to ensure that children are secure in their decoding and blending skills before moving onto learning new sounds. This week we will be focusing on:

Spelling and handwriting
This week we will be practising forming our numbers correctly.
We will also be practising the spelling of our common exception words throughout the week: the, to ,no, go, I.
Writing
This week we will be writing a simple sentence about our holiday or anything else we would like to share with our new teachers.
Reading
All children have now received a book based on their end of Reception assessments. We will be reading one to one with children throughout the week and changing books. Please ensure books are brought in daily.

This week we are practising our counting skills and playing lots of different maths games.
We will also be practising forming our numbers carefully in small groups.

  • Count, read and write numbers to 10 in numerals
  • Count to 10, forwards and backwards beginning with 1 or 0 from any given number
  • To count out objects accurately using 1:1 correspondence to 10 (and 20).

PE- SHINE Outside Session – Team Games

Class PE – Fundamental Movement Skills: Footwork Patterns and One Leg Balance

PSHE – We will be reading stories relating to our different ELLI animals and thinking about how they can help us in our learning.
We will also be establishing a set of rules for our PSHE/circle time sessions to help everyone feel safe and respected when discussing their feelings and things that are important to them.

Art – We will be using our ELLI animals as inspiration for lots of artwork to decorate our classrooms. See below.

Chameleon
We will be learning about primary and tertiary colours and will be experimenting with colour mixing, using the illustration in the story The Mixed Up Chameleon for inspiration.

Tortoise
We will be using our ‘stickability’ like the ELLI Tortoise to create a collage using small pieces of coloured paper to a create a shell for a tortoise.

Unicorn
We will also be using our imagination like the ELLI Unicorn to decorate a picture of a unicorn.
