Reception – Term 1, Week 4

  • All children will be full time from Monday 23rd September 2024.
  • Please can you send one or two photos of your child’s family into school by Thursday 26th. Please hand it to your child’s class teacher in the morning/afternoon. We will be talking about families during our Religion and Worldviews lesson, as well as making a family display in the classroom.
  • We are aware of some issues with families not receiving emails from school. We are working hard to resolve these issues. Please click here to view the newsletters.
  • Please find the lunch menu by clicking here.
  • On Monday, we send out emails from Tapestry (online learning diary)  asking you to activate your account. Please do this ASAP and let your child’s class teacher know if you have not received a link. They sometimes go into junk mail, so please check there too.
  • Please use the school calendar to find up-coming dates. Reception parents are invited to watch a phonics lesson in their child’s class on Wednesday 16th October 2024.
  • We have an inset day on Friday 4th October 2024 so no children will attend school on this day.
  • If you have any pick up arrangements (besides parents collecting), please email your child’s class teacher at least 48 hours in advance or speak to them on the door in the morning. If it is an emergency and you have a change of collection arrangements within the school day, please phone the school office as teachers do not access their emails within the school day.
  • Daisy Class email – daisy@henleaze-inf.bristol.sch.uk
  • Buttercup Class email – buttercup@henleaze-inf.bristol.sch.uk
  • Please make sure your child has a coat in school every day. We will go outside even when it is cold and raining.
  • Please do not allow your child to play with the resources that are on the Reception patio in the morning. These have been carefully positioned and are there to support your child’s learning during the school day.

This week, the two halves of children have met! We have had 30 children in class every morning and it has been brilliant to see the children interacting with new friends. They have enjoyed playing on the patio and making relationships with other children.

Next week, we will be conducting the statutory Reception Baseline Assessments. The purpose of the assessment is to provide the starting point for a progress measure that will help parents understand how well schools support their pupils to progress between reception and year 6. If you would like to understand more about these assessments, please click here.

We will continue learning about the ELLI animals for Term 1 and 2. The first ELLI animal we will be learning about is the Owl. You can find out more about the ELLI animals on the page ‘Our Curriculum’.

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

We will be exploring different coping strategies to help regulate our emotions, identify our own feelings and consider the reasons behind our emotions.

Communication and Language

This week, the children will be acting out the Owl Babies story.

Physical development

Each class has a fine motor area in the classroom that children can access during choosing time. They will continue to run around and climb in the outside environment too, developing gross motor skills.

Literacy

This week we will continue learning Phase 2 phonics. They will learn the phonemes (sounds) i, n, m and d. Within these lessons, children practice writing the new letter and write some 2 and 3 letter words too.

The children will be asked to draw a picture of their family and have a go at writing their name

Maths

We will be matching objects to pictures, identifying a set of items and sort objects into type.

Understanding the World

The children will learn about owls and we will be focusing on the vocabulary beak, wing, talons and feathers.

Expressive arts and Design

We will be combining materials to make owls. The children will paint paper plates before sticking on feathers, beaks and eyes.

Religion and Worldviews

This week the children will talk about people and places that are special to them (e.g. where they have been on a holiday, a room in their house, their favourite park). Please can you send one or two photos of your child’s family into school by Thursday 26th. Please hand it to your child’s class teacher in the morning/afternoon. We will be talking about families during our Religion and Worldviews lesson, as well as making a family display in the classroom.
