This Week:
Tuesday 8th October – Year 2 Caldicot Castle Trip – All children will need a packed lunch, snack and water bottle, sensible shoes (no wellies) and waterproof coat. See above note.
Tuesday 15th October – Phonics learn-a-long KS1 – 9am in classrooms.
Wednesday 23rd October – Harvest Festival – Look out for more information. We will be asking for non perishable food stuffs to be brought in for donation to the Salvation Army Food Banks.
Friday 25th October – End of Term 1. Non uniform day. Contributions to FHIS.
Monday 4th November – First Day of Term 2 INSET – School Closed to Children
Tuesday 5th November – First Day of Term 2 for children

English
Phonics and Spelling
Session 1 Who might we meet at the castle? – jobs etc. What would their characteristics be?
Session 2 Character description of Lady Alianore that presented our workshop on the trip. Describe her as a character and add the important things that she taught us.
Session 3 Write captions to go with pictures from trip to the castle.
Handwriting Revisit lower case formation – Make sure all letters start in the correct position.
Reading
Reading as part of a group individually efficiently blending unknown words so as not to loose pace or comprehension.
Maths
Make sure we are secure with Bonds to 10 and then these to increase knowledge of bonds to 20
Fact families – Addition and subtraction bonds within 20 to reinforce bonds to 20.
Related facts – Use related facts to allow easier calculations of addition and subtraction.
Extend to see how the number bonds we are secure with can be used for knowing/working out Bonds to 100 (tens)
Wider Curriculum
Geography Map work – Keys and symbols – OS maps Take map on trip to follow. Take photos at key points so can compare map symbol with the actual landmark/feature
SHINE PE
R+WV Look at the Muslim Naming Ceremony. What happens? Who is it for? Make links to other religions who may do something similar.
Science Q5 of Enquiry: Keeping healthy: why do we exercise? Describe the importance for humans of exercise. Is this the same for all animals?
PSHE To recognise how others show feelings in different ways and how to respond.
Art Make field sketches during our trip to castle. These will be used next week to create water colour pictures depicting Caldicot Castle.
DT Make models of castles, using and adapting their designs, (Sycamore and Maple Class) using air drying clay. Paint clay models of castles and varnish (Willow Class).
