Year 1 News- Term 4, Week 2

This week in Year 1 we have continued our learning based around our newly introduced book from last week, ‘Yeti and the Bird’. We have looked at putting keywords from the book into sentences of our own, focussing on spelling and grammar and punctuation with an emphasis on adjectives. We have looked at connecting words such as ‘because’ and learnt a rhyme in which we can use to help us remember the spelling! ‘Big elephants can always understand small elephants’. Ask your children to teach you the rhyme at home and have a go at spelling it together!

In Maths following on from last week’s learning in relation to place value we have been Identifying 1 more/less within 100, with a focus on bridging 10, have been Comparing the size of 2 digit numbers within 100 and using the symbols <, > and = and finally we have looked at Ordering 3-5 non-consecutive 2 digit numbers from smallest to largest, by comparing tens and ones digits. Test your children at home ordering and comparing numbers within 100. You can find some excellent resources and games to support this using your personal log in for purple mash at home. (Look at Maths- place value- place value within 100).

In our Topic learning this week we have learnt scientifically and geographically learning about Uk Maps, representing what we know about the UK e.g. rivers, mountains, countries, cities, holiday in devon etc. ‘where Granny comes from’ and have had great fun sharing personal experiences around travel in the UK.

In PSHE this week we have been continuing learning about ways in which we can be healthy, and make healthy lifestyle choices and how to feel good about ourselves making these choices.

We thoroughly enjoyed meeting all of our wonderful parents and carers of our year 1 children this week during parent’s evenings. We hope that they were informative and that you are all as proud of your children as we are.   If you did not manage to attend either date, talk to your children’s class teacher if you would like to arrange an alternate 10 minute slot to suit you.

Have a lovely weekend
