Year 1 News- Term 4, Week 3

This week we have been busy thinking about our Mums and all the fantastic things they do in preparation for celebration of Mother’s day coming up on the 22nd of March. We have been busy writing and crafting and putting together some wonderful gifts for our Mums… Shhh!

In English this week we are thinking about the alternative sounds for the n with the ‘kn’ in ‘know’ and r with the ’wr’ in ‘write’. We have been focusing on blending and segmenting words this week as well as recapping sounds appropriate for us as individual classes. We have been focusing on the use of adjectives we would use to describe our mums and have used these to inspire some beautiful and thoughtful poems that we have written. We have concentrated this week on our letter formation, particularly ‘b’ and ‘d’ remembering our rhymes for the letters in order to help with our misconceptions/ reversals (b- ‘first comes the bat, then the ball, d- first comes the donut, then the door’).

In Maths we have linked our knowledge and recent learning around place value including hundreds, tens and ones to coins and their value. We have practiced representing the value of coins in drawing lines and dots to represent tens and ones.

In PSHE this week we continue our theme of ‘healthy me’ understanding how germs cause disease and illness and learning about ways in which we can keep ourselves clean and safe and away from hazardous household products and what they might look like.

In RE we have been learning about Easter- The gospel story, sharing what we already know about the story of Easter and why it is important to Christians. We have completed story maps sequencing the biblical story of Easter.

See you again in week 4! Have a lovely weekend.
