This Thursday 6th March we will be celebrating this year’s World Book Day – hopefully you will already have seen the communications about this but here is a reminder. This day acknowledges the importance of reading for pleasure and we are in the process of planning some exciting events for the children. This is advance notice that on the day children will be invited to dress up as a character from a book.

We would also like the children to think about themselves as a reader and to discuss how there are lots of examples in life where we read. We are therefore inviting children to create a ‘Reading River’ to celebrate themselves as a reader.

Below is an example of Miss Ross as a reader. It might be that the children enjoy comics or magazines, enjoy baking with you and looking at recipes, read pokemon or top trumps cards as well as having favourite fiction or non-fiction books. They can show these in any way they wish.

More information about World Book Day including how to redeem your token and support to encourage reading at home is available here: https://www.worldbookday.com/families/.

Phonics: Phase 5b of our phonics.

Writing: Our class text is Yeti and Bird by Nadia Shireen.

This week we will be writing letters to yeti to help him make a friend. We will also be celebrating World Book Day on Thursday and we have an online author and draw along session on Tuesday with the author of this book:

Reading: Please continue to read daily with your child at home to support. Please remember to log this in your child’s reading record to support us to know if how many times they have read the book at home when we come to read with them.

We will be using non-standard units, such as cubes, to measure mass.
