Celebrations
This week, the children have loved seeing the seeds (they planted last week) germinate. They have all had a go at doing an observational drawing of a bunch of flowers. We have been impressed at their attention to detail! We hope you all have a wonderful long bank holiday weekend!

Tapestry observation request
This week, we have been learning a range of names for plants and we have been on a walk around our school site to identify and name plants like daffodils, magnolia tree, buttercups, daisies. Please go outside with your child and see if you can identify and name a range of plants. Please send us photos and your child will be asked to ‘teach’ the names of the plants to their class!
You can also send us any moments that you feel are significant in your child’s learning or want to share with your child’s class teachers. Click the links below to find out how to add observations from different devices.

This week’s learning
Personal, Social and Emotional Development
This week’s Personal, Social and Emotional Development is about ‘What makes a good friend?’. We will be looking to understand the characteristics that make a good friend and think about why it may be difficult for others to be a good friend all of the time.
Communication and Language
Book of the week:
The Tiny Seed by Eric Carle
We will be reading and acting out the story, using some echo reading where children copy their teacher’s expressive reading.
Physical development
In P.E this week we will be continuing with Gymnastics, practicing jumping and landing safety from a height.
Literacy
This week in Phonics, we will learn Phase 4 words with adjacent consonants: gl. gr, pl, pr, sc, sk, sm, sn
And the common exception words: little, one
We will practise blending phonemes to read, and segmenting words to spell them using the phonemes and graphemes we have learned so far.
Writing: This week, the children will be writing dictated sentences connected with our story.
Maths
This week we will be learning about subtraction within 10. The children will be learning about ‘taking away’ for the first time. They will use physical objects to support their mathematical thinking.
Understanding the World
In this week’s Understanding the World we will be continuing to make observations of our seeds, noticing any changes that may be happening. We will also be talking about the similarities and differences in plants.
Religion and Worldviews
This week, we will learn what two Muslim stories have to tell Muslims about good ways to live.
Expressive arts and Design
We will be doing Music in Expressive arts and Design this week, learning to discriminate between changes in pitch, recognising high, middle and low sounds. We will be exploring high and low sounds using our voices and instruments.
