Year 1 Learning Week 1 Term 6

Welcome back! We can’t quite believe it is the last term of Year 1. We are really looking forward to having a super last term.

Please use the school calendar to find up-coming dates. There are some key dates below:
Thursday 5th June – Class photos during the school day.
Monday 16th June – Inset day. School closed to all children
Friday 20th June – Sports day (morning only – 9:30-11:30). Parents are welcome to come support.
Monday 30th June – Open afternoon (after school). An opportunity for you and your child to visit their new classroom and look at their books/work this year.
Tuesday 22nd July – Last day of the school year.

Phonics
This week we will be revising the sounds that we have learnt so far – this will focus on individual classes needs.
Next week will be our Year 1 Phonics Screening. There was an email with details about this before half term.

Reading
Thank you for your continued support with reading at home. The Headteacher’s award for reading at home is on the horizon for many: keep going Year 1!

Writing
We will be doing some special Father’s Day writing and exploring the book-My dad is a Grizzly Bear.

We are introducing position and direction and the mathematical language used.

Science: We will be revisiting our learning about plants. Thinking about the parts of plants and what different plants are.

Religion and World Views: We will creating a class poem by exploring our senses.

Music: We will be recording animal rhythms! 

History: We will be learning about the lives of significant figures and beginning to look at Mary Anning and David Attenborough.

PE: To develop underarm throwing and catching skills.

PSHE: We continue with our learning about Belonging. We recognise the different groups that people belong to.
