Year 2 Learning. Term 6, Week 2

Thursday 12th June – Trip to Mosque – Children do not need to bring anything special for our visit to the Mosque. We will be back in school for our normal lunchtime. Please make sure you are punctual as some classes will be leaving as soon as registers are complete.

Writing – ‘The Tin Forest
Setting/Character
1. Add words on post it notes to describe the forest. Introduce words with the suffix -ful. 
2. Create a postcard/letter to the old man’s friend to describe the forest he has made. Use a variety of sentence forms (statements, exclamation, question, command), words with the -ful suffix, expanded noun phrases and subordination (when, because). 
3. Write a Character Description of old man.

Reading – ‘Fantastic Mr Fox’
Focus on the core text to infer how dialogue is said.
Annotate a drawing using evidence from the text read to them.
Sequence events in the order they are revealed.

  • To tell the time past the hour to 5 minute intervals on an analogue clock.
  • To tell the time to 5 minute intervals on an analogue clock, past and to the hour.
  • To use the knowledge that there are 60 minutes in an hour to work out how many minutes are in different lengths of time, within and beyond one hour.
  • To use the knowledge that there are 24 hours in a day to solve problems involving time.

Science – Compare: What is alive, what is not alive and what has never been alive?
History/Geography – Windrush – Why was this such a special journey?

Transition – Y3 coming over to Infants for ‘Buddy Reading’ Session
PE/SHINE – Preparation for Sports Day
R and WV – Visit to Mosque – A Special Place for Muslims
Music – Understand the importance of warming up our voices and to stand tall with good posture
-To begin to talk about and understand the texture, timbre and structure of a piece of music.

Drama – Read through play for end of year performance and discuss different types of parts available.
