Reception – Term 6, Week 3

  • Friday 20th June – Sports day (morning only). Parents are welcome to come support.
  • Monday 30th June – Open afternoon (after school). An opportunity for you and your child to visit their new classroom and look at their books/work this year.
  • Please alert your child’s class teacher when your child has filled up one side of their bookmark. 
  • Please find the lunch menu by clicking here
  • Please use the school calendar to find up-coming dates. 
  • Please make sure your child has a coat in school every day. We will go outside even when it is cold and raining.
  • Please do not allow your child to play with the resources that are on the Reception patio in the morning. These have been carefully positioned and are there to support your child’s learning during the school day.

The children have been enjoying our art sessions this week, creating a card for a special someone! They have also be enjoying practising for Sports Day in our PE sessions ready for next week.

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

We will be learning about why it is important to be able to take care of ourselves by completing independent tasks related to health, well being and hygiene. 

Communication and Language

Book of the week – Are you a snail? By Judy Allen and Tudor Hunphries

We will be creating ‘Helicopter stories’ inspired by our book of the week.

Physical development

We will continue to practice activities for sports day.

Literacy

This week in Phonics, we will practise mastery of Phase 4 words with adjacent consonants br, bl, cr, sk, pt, ct, gr, gl

And revisiting the common exception words: were, there

We will practise blending phonemes to read, and segmenting words to spell them using the phonemes and graphemes we have learned so far.

Writing: This week, the children will be writing snail facts.

Maths

This week in Maths we will be looking at identifying units within repeating patterns and creating rules for our own patterns. We will also be looking at replicating and building scenes and constructions, visualising them from different positions.  

Understanding the World

We are hoping that our ladybirds arrive soon so that we can watch them grow.

Religion and Worldviews

We will be remembering some of the things we have heard about in Term 5 and 6 and assessing children’s learning in Religion and Worldviews.

Expressive arts and Design

In music, we will be continuing our unit of work focusing on pitch. The children will be describing the features of Native American Indian music. They will also be using their voices expressively and creatively to sing songs and chants.
