Notices:

Welcome to Miss Argyrou (Willow Class) and Miss Fielding (Cherry Class). They join us as trainee teachers from UWE and will be supporting your children until Christmas. Please say hello at drop offs as they get to know our families.

Star of the Week slips:

If your child is SOTW will put a slip with their name on it in their reading record on the Wednesday before the assembly so that you will pick this up during daily reading. We will also remind children and try and catch you on the door to ensure you are aware. Thanks for your support.

Play equipment:

Please do not allow your children and siblings to play with the Y1 outdoor equipment before and after school-we often have activities set up in advance of the school day. Thank you for your understanding.

English

Phonics
This week we will be continuing revision of Phase 4. In year 1 we start with a revision of sounds taught in Reception to ensure that children are secure in their decoding and blending skills before moving onto learning new sounds. This week we will be focusing on adding the suffix -ed to verbs and adding the suffix -er to verbs to change them to a noun.

Handwriting focus:

Our whole school begins a new handwriting scheme this year: Unlocking Letters and Sounds Handwriting. This term we are looking at number formation mastery. This week we will be writing 4 and 5. As part of our revision of common exception words, we will also be practicing writing a range of these words informally throughout the week.

Writing
This week we will be writing simple sentences. We will be focusing on capital letters and full stops and correcting errors of missing or incorrectly placed capital letters or full stops. We will also be using a capital letter for pronouns.

Reading

We will be having structured storytime, learning new vocabulary and how to add expression to our reading aloud.

We will continue reading one to one with children throughout the week and changing their books. Please ensure books are brought in daily.
