Diary dates

Tuesday 7th October – Phonics learn along – an opportunity to see how phonics is taught (9:00-9:30am)
Tuesday 21st and Thursday 23rd October – Parents evenings
Friday 24th October – End of Term 1. Non uniform day. Contributions to FHIS.

English

Phonics: revision of Phase 5b graphemes with a focus on spelling

Writing
We will be continuing our writing topic of character descriptions. We will be using the expanded noun phrases and adverbs that we learnt about last week to write sentences to describe our characters.


E.g. The brave pirate walked quickly.
‘the brave pirate’ = expanded noun phrase 
‘quickly’ = adverb.

Reading
We will be finishing our story ‘The goose that laid the golden egg’.
We will be applying our inference skills to look at the text in more detail.
We will also be sequencing the events of the story.

Maths

We will be finishing up our place value unit and carrying out assessment this week. We will be:
-Couting in 2s, 5s and 10s (revisit from Year 1)
-Counting in 3s

Wider Curriculum

Science: ‘Living things and their habitats’: Where do plants and animals live? To answer this question we will be learning about different types of habitat and what a microhabitat is.
DT: To design a fairground wheel. We will be drawing our designs this week based on our research last week.
History: As part of our learning about the Great Fire of London we will be answering the question ‘Where did the fire spread to?’
Music: To explore the correlation between pitch and high/low notation. We will be riding the waves down the River Avon to experiment with the idea of pitch going high and low as we go.
PE: We will continue our fundamental movement skills unit.
Religion and Worldviews: Why do we need to give thanks? We will be exploring the many reasons why we might be thankful and the different ways that we can show this.
