Diary dates

Monday 3rd November – INSET day – School closed to children.
Tuesday 4th November – First day of Term 2
Monday 10th November – Odd Socks Day
Wednesday 3rd December – Choir Henleaze Highstreet Performance 4pm (choir parents will be contacted at the begining of Term 2)
Wednesday 10th December, 2pm – HIS Carol Service at St Peter’s Church. Families are welcome to join us to sing some carols at 2pm.
Friday 19th December – Last day of school before the Christmas holidays

Over half term, please have a look at the shops in our community. 

You could:

-Walk along Henleaze High Street and tell a grown-up all of the different shops you can see.

-Draw a picture of your favourite shop on the High Street and what you can buy in there

-Write a list of all the different shops there are. Are there more than one of the same?

Anti Bullying Week

It is Anti-Bullying Week in Week 2 (week beginning 10th November). This year’s theme from the Anti-Bullying Alliance is ‘the Power for Good’. If you’d like to know more please see here.

On Monday 10th November, we will kick off the week with Odd Socks Day. The children are invited to wear odd socks (with their normal school uniform) on this day to celebrate what makes us unique. Throughout the week the children will explore how to use kindness as a superpower to help others and engage in other related activities.

English

Phonics:

This week we will be starting our new phase 5 learning. We will focus on the following sounds: ay, ou, ie, and ea. Please ensure your children are reading daily at home to support the acquisition of these new sounds.

Writing
Next term we will be writing sentences based on the story Where the Wild things are. We will focus on punctuation and identifying nouns and verbs in sentences.

Reading
We will continue reading one to one with children throughout the week and changing books. Please ensure books are brought in daily.  Our whole class reading lessons will be based on the book The Storm Whale.

Maths   

Maths fluency:

Recall of addition facts within 10

Counting forwards and backwards from 20.

Recall of 1 more/less within 10

Number formation within 10

Number recognition within 20

Main learning:

-To use the language part-part whole and relate to addition and subtraction.

-To find all addition and subtraction number sentences relating to a part-part whole model.

-To know that addition and subtraction are inverse operations.
-To use a number line to subtract.

-To use the symbols – and = to record subtraction number sentences.
