Anti Bullying Week
It is Anti-Bullying this week (week beginning 10th November). This year’s theme from the Anti-Bullying Alliance is ‘the Power for Good’. If you’d like to know more please see here.
On Monday 10th November, we will kick off the week with Odd Socks Day. The children are invited to wear odd socks (with their normal school uniform) on this day to celebrate what makes us unique. Throughout the week the children will explore how to use kindness as a superpower to help others and engage in other related activities.

English
Phonics: We will begin our new block of lessons – 5c mastery.

Writing
We will begin a 3-week block of learning about ‘stories from other cultures’. We will learn about Brazilian culture, with a particular focus on Rio de Janeiro. We will then immerse ourselves in our new book – ‘From my Window’ by Otavio Junior. We will use our knowledge of Brazilian culture to create a character and setting from Brazil and begin to plan and write a story set in Rio de Janeiro.

Reading
We will be continuing to read our new class text – Paddington.

We will read an extract to learn more about Peru (where Paddington is from), use inference skills to work out how the characters in the story felt at different times and read and perform a poem about marmalade.
Maths
We will be working on Addition and Subtraction.
-To add and subtract 2 digit numbers within 100, by drawing tens and ones using our line and dot method and base 10 (dienes).
We will build this up in small steps focusing on addition and subtraction individually, without crossing 10 and then moving onto crossing 10 and then mixing the operations.
When we swap the ten ones (dots) for a ten (line) we call this exchanging.
Wider Curriculum
Science: ‘Animals including humans’: What is an animal? We will be learning the difference between vertebrate and invertebrate
Geography: Where is London and what is it like? Where is the country of Kenya? We will be starting to learn and compare these 2 contrasting locations.
PE: Dance
PSHE: Anti bullying week! We will be learning about what bullying is and how we can stand up to it, with a particular focus on gender stereotyping. We will engage in a class assembly about using our ‘power’ for good – to stand up for good and speak out when people are unkind. We will practise being ‘kindness superheroes’ in the playground and create kindness superhero capes.
Art: We will use all of the skills and techniques we have learnt so far to create a piece of ocean art while listening to a piece of related music.
