Reception Class 3

Our first full week of school has been amazing!

The children have been brilliant at learning the routines of the school day and have enjoyed making new friends. The lovely weather has meant that they have especially enjoyed playing in our outside area, both during the school day and at lunchtimes. All the children have now had a school meal and have stayed for a full day. We are looking forward to everyone being in school full time from Monday!

This week the children have started learning about the Elli animals. They have enjoyed reading the story ‘Owl babies’ learning the rhyme ‘The Big Eyed Owl’ and making their own baby owls. We have enjoyed sharing family photographs and learning about each other’s families. If your child has not bought a photo in yet it’s not too late! We have also thought about our school rules and have made our own class charter to ensure that our classroom is a happy place to play and learn.

P.E

Last week there was an error in the PE days, here are the  correct days :

  • Class 1 – Monday
  • Class 2 – Monday
  • Class 3 – Friday

On PE days the children should come to school dressed in their PE kit.

This weeks learning

Here is a summary of this week’s learning.

PSHE

We will be thinking about our feelings, how we express them and thinking about how we can cheer ourselves up or calm ourselves down.

Communication & Language

This week we will continue developing our listening skills using listening games and instrumental sounds.

We will retell the story of the Owl Babies in a story square.

Physical

We will be having our first PE lesson in the hall this week and will be playing games like the traffic light game to help us learn how to move in this big space.

We will also have our first WriteDance lesson. In WriteDance we use music and movement to practise the gross motor skills that are related to the fine motor skills that we use when writing.

Literacy

Reading: This week we will be continuing to think about the Owl Babies story (c/c C&L)

Writing: Mark making in a variety of ways inside and outside the classroom.

Mathematics

Continuing to explore the classroom resources and play number games.

We will begin use these activities to assess each child’s knowledge and understanding of number and find their starting points.

Understanding the World

This week we will continue to learn about Owls and also about each other’s families.

Expressive Arts

We will be continuing to use a variety of materials to make our own baby owls.

The full learning plans are available here for children who are quarantining at home or waiting for a COVID test result
