Celebrations this week

This week the children have worked collaboratively to create some beautiful art work for our ELLI wall displays (photos to come!). They have also created some excellent poems in English which reflect on different emotions and how we behave when we feel a certain way. This has supported the learning of verbs and adverbs.

Week 5

English

This week in English, we will be investigating the surprising sighting of dragons in the Henleaze area! We will be using our knowledge of adjectives, verbs and adverbs to help us write wanted posters to hopefully assist in capturing the creatures. We will produce some instructions on how to do this safely so that no humans or dragons are harmed in the process.

In phonics the children will look at the sounds ir (fir), aw (saw) and wh (what) and practise using these in our reading and writing of words and then applying those words in sentences. We will also look at the tricky words were, their and called.

Maths

This week, we are continuing our block of learning about addition and subtraction. The children will be comparing number sentences using the greater than, less than and equal to symbols (e.g. 20 + 5 > 4 + 2), as well as using their knowledge of related facts (e.g. 3 + 5 = 8 so 30 + 50 = 80). They will continue to practise adding and subtracting tens and ones within 100 using concrete resources to visualise the calculation, represent it by drawing it and then represent it by writing a number sentence. The children are encouraged to talk about their learning as we are continually supporting  them to become more confident in describing their maths learning. 

Topic

This week in History, we will be learning about the events that led up to the battle of hastings and how William the Conqueror became King and why this is significant. The children will be using their knowledge to create a comic strip of the events. 

In R.E this week we will be reading The Camel’s story of the Prophet Mohamud and learning about why this story is inspiring to Muslims. 

In P.S.H.E this week we will be considering all that we have learnt about working together as a class and following school rules to create a poster which promotes positive learning behaviors.
