Term 2, Week 6

Class 3 have had a lovely week back in school. We are all very excited that the Advent countdown to Christmas has begun and have been enjoying making Chrtistmas crafts and decorating the classroom.  We worked together to write a class letter to Santa and then everyone wrote their own letters which were amazing! It is great to see so many of the children using all the phonics that they have been learning in their independent writing.

We have also been very busy singing our Christmas songs and had a busy day recording them all on Friday. Thank you for providing all the lovely hats and scarves that made everyone look so colourful. The final production will be shared with you when I have mastered my final new technical skill of 2020!

This week we will continue all our Christmas activities including learning the song  ‘Feliz Navidad’  that we will be singing with the whole school next week  – outside of course!

Alongside this we will be doing lots of assessment and celebrating the progress that everyone has made during their first term at school!

PSHE

This week, as well as continuing to support children’s wellbeing through the excitement and tiredness, we will be talking about what to do if someone is unkind. We will be teaching the children to say, ‘Please don’t do that, I don’t like it’ when someone does or says something to them that they don’t like. We will also explain to the children if they hear those words they have to stop. We are a “telling” school where children are encouraged to tell adults if they experience unkindness towards themselves or others.

Communication and Language

We continue to support development in this area by talking to the children about what they are doing, encouraging them to listen and to take turns in conversation. When watching something or reading stories we will ask questions to check that the children are actively listening and understand what is happening in the program or story. We will be reading and talking about  the story ‘Spinderella’ by Julia Donaldson. You can watch the story being read here.

Spinderella by Julia Donaldson

We will play games like I Spy,  silly sentences ( where all the words begin with the same sound) and robot talking t( breaking the words down into individual phonemes eg  r…e…d…  instead of red ) to encourage your child to listen to the phonemes in words.

Physical

PE – Dynamic Balance to Agility.

I can work sensibly with others sharing and taking turns. I can work with others, take turns and share with help.

Literacy

This week we will be reading the story ‘Spinderella’ by Julia Donaldson to talk about the ELLI ‘Spider’ and how it can help us to make connections in our learning.

Phonics:

This week we will be recapping all the phonemes that we learnt so far and learning the new phoneme qu.

We will use all the phonemes learnt so far to blend (read) and segment (spell) CVC words

Tricky words:

We will also be learning the ‘Tricky’ word ‘they’ that cannot be blended but need to be learnt by sight.

Reading:

This week we will read in small groups and 1:1. We will continue to allocate them a home reading book from our online reading scheme. Please continue to talk to your children about their reading book, what do you think that word means? how might you describe that character?

Mathematics

This week we  will continue to explore different ways of using numbers to 10. We will be making 10 in different ways and also practising our calculation skills and recording number stories in our own way. This might be practically, pictorially, using marks and sometimes writing numerals.

Of course opening our Advent calendars is a great opportunity to count up to the days date and also how many days are left until Christmas!
