Term 2 Week 7

Notices

  • An email has been sent about party food for our class parties on Thursday so please check that, and don’t forget party clothes!

Celebrations from week 6

This week the children have been busy writing seasonal poems, using wonderful adjectives, alliteration and rhyming words. They have made their beautiful writing into a calendar and I’m sure you will be as pleased as we are with the results! We had a brilliant music afternoon where they learnt about writing musical notes and making winter themed melodies, it was a very fun and rather noisy afternoon!

Week 7

English

We will be busy with festive writing this week in English. First, we will write a very polite letter to send to Father Christmas. The children will introduce themselves and what they have worked hard on this year. They will also ask Father Christmas questions about his life (remembering question marks).

We are also doing some sentence writing based on the short animation ‘Ornaments’. The goal is for all children to remember to use a capital letter and full stop in every single sentence.

Maths

We have completed our block of learning about multiplication and division. We are starting to learn about statistics in a fun Christmassy way. We are going to be interpreting data from tally charts and collecting data using tally charts. We will also use tally charts to produce pictograms and answer questions about the data presented in pictograms. At home, you could collect data using tally charts to count how many times you roll a number on a dice, how many of each fruit you have in your fruit bowl, how many times Christmas is mentioned in one day etc. Counting in 5s with your child will support their ability to interpret data from tally charts as it will enable them to count the total efficiently.

Topic

This week we are developing our computing skills by creating digital music on the school laptops. We will be using a program on Purple Mash called 2Sequence which allows the children to play around with different sounds and electronic music, with the aim to create a melodic tune. We will be rounding off our PSHE topic of celebrating difference by create a trophy which celebrate the difference between children and their friends. Finally we will also be enjoying some festive art sessions, lots of festive fun, as well as our outdoor singing performance of Feliz Navidad.

Please find this week’s plans here if you are self isolating.
