Year 1 Week 3 T4 Learning

Welcome back Year 1! We are all so excited to be welcoming our classes back. Thank you to everyone for your support and patience over this really trying and difficult time. You have all been amazing and school and at home and should all feel really proud of all you have achieved. We have been so impressed with all the work that has been submitted. We will have lots of time for fun, discussions, play and a little learning to ease us back into school.

Noticeboard

  • Parents Evenings are Tuesday and Thursday evenings this week.
  • Remember to bring in your home school learning  for us to celebrate.
  • Please return any whiteboards and pens or ipads that you borrowed from school.
  • Class 4 and 6 Start at 9am and finish at 3:30pm
  • Class 5 Start at 8:45am and finish at 3:15pm
  • PE days return to pre-Christmas days:

         Class 6: Wednesday and Thursday

         Class 5:  Monday and Wednesday

         Class 4:  Tuesday and Thursday

  • Remember to click the link to plans below if your child is needing to self-isolate but is well. Please email the class email address if you find yourself in this position and are unsure.
  • We will continue to aim to get outside as much as possible so they really need a waterproof coat each day.

Year 1 Learning Week 3, Term 4– Link to plans and resources if you are needing to isolate or quarantine.

Daily WellBeing Activities:

Monday – Listen carefully: Play a listening to others game.eg eye contact or squeak piggy.
Tuesday – Act kindly: Kindness A to Z Talk through them as a class. Children can tick off ones they have done or spotted someone else doing.
Wednesday – Move calmly: Sea creature yoga or Focus and calm yoga.
Thursday – Take care of our school: Make a new thankful tree of all the things you use in class that you are thankful for. Each child draws on a leaf to share with class. Discuss how to take care of these things.(Examples of thankfulness trees)
Friday – Do your best: Look at the positive character traits. Can you say how you, or someone in your class is like this?

English

Phonics /Spelling/ Daily Revision of Phase 5 Phonics:
ir (girl)  u_e (tube)   ue (blue)   ew (blewoy (boy)  + Handwriting, joining digraphs and dictated sentences.


Additional Phonics: Phase 5 Flash cards, BLENDING and SEGMENTING every day and individual assessments will begin.
Spelling: Words using phonics from above and Tricky Words: any, many, again, different, thought
Vocabulary:
 word, finger space, sentence, punctuation, lower case, capital, full stop, adjective, poem, rhyme

Writing: Composition – To use a scaffold to produce a poem all about Mum! Build up over 2 sessions, collecting adjectives, thoughts and memories about our mums, before writing out on special paper in best handwriting.

Reading: Whole Class Poetry Focus –  
To recognise rhyme and to use this to help predict unknown words.
To work in a pair or small group to identify rhyming words and certain phonemes.

Individual Reading – Read aloud accurately books that are consistent with developing phonic knowledge and that do not require use of other strategies to work out words.

Extended Challenge – Develop their comprehension skills and recording answers to questions about a written text.

All children will bring home paper books. Assessments will be carried out over the coming weeks and changes made to book banding accordingly. Please also continue to use Pearson books online for additional material. Books will be changed weekly again on specific days for your child.

Maths

Learning Objectives:
To add by counting on within 20 (Exc: within 50)
To subtract by counting backwards within 20 (Exc: within 50).
To add and subtract 1 and 2-digit numbers to 20, including 0.
To understand that addition is commutative.
To solve one-step addition and subtraction problems 
Exc: To solve two-step addition and subtraction problems

Science-
LO: I can describe the basic needs of animals (including humans) for survival 
Follow the powerpoint Animals’ Basic Needs For Survival. Predominantly discussion-based lesson covering basic needs to the difference between surviving and thriving.

Potential extension: Do we only need physical things to survive or do emotions also affect our health?

RE- 
LO: To recall the parable of the Good Samaritan and to know why it is important to Christians
Follow the ppt: The parable of the good Samaritan. Discuss in pairs what the children think it might mean. How can we relate it to life in school? 
In groups pick a school scenario to roleplay how we could be good Samaritans.
Potential extension: can the children relate this message to be kind to everyone to one of the 5 pillars of Islam? (Zakat – dispense charity and alms)

Music- 
Continue learning the next 2 songs for production and discuss parts (speaking and not speaking), dance and animations.
