Welcome back to the last week of term 4!

This week we have had fun revisiting 2D and 3D shapes and using them to make patterns and  models with our large outside construction apparatus.

Notices

• Term finishes for the children on Wednesday as staff have INSET training on Thursday. Wednesday will be a non-uniform day with donations to FHIS.
• If you haven’t already done so please remember our Easter Observation Challenge to make and decorate some chocolate cupcakes. Please send us some observations of this activity to share with the class.
• In  terms 5 & 6  our topic theme  will be ‘In The Garden’.  In Term 5 we will be planting seeds and learning about how things grow.

This week’s Learning 

This week the whole school are sharing the theme of chocolate using the book ‘Chocolate Cake’ by Michael Rosen.  Please share this at home by taking part in our Easer Observation Challenge to make and decorate some chocolate cup cakes. 

PSED 

This week, we are returning to our topic of Healthy Me and learning what the word Healthy means and that some foods are healthier than others… but that it’s fine to have a chocolate treat occasionally! We will continue our daily well-being activities.

Communication and Language

We will be reading the story ‘Chocolate Cake’, joining in with and thinking about the meaning of the descriptive vocabulary.

Physical

We will also be going for a walk around the school grounds.

Literacy 

Phonics 

This week we will be revisiting the phonemes and digraphs we have been learning at home and in school. We will be using these to write words and captions. 

We will also be recapping all the phase 2 and 3  tricky words that we have learnt.

Reading

This week we will be doing guided group reading with small groups of children. 

The children will have a reading book to keep over the holidays but please supplement these with their Active Learn ‘Bug club’ books.

Please try to read with your child for 10 minutes every day.

Writing        

This week we will be doing a whole class shared writing session on making chocolate cake. We will be writing an ingredients list then a step-step instructions on how to make  chocolate cakes. This is based around the story ‘Chocolate Cake’ by Michael Rosen. 

Mathematics

Our Maths this week will be based around Easter eggs. We will be practising our counting and calculation skills and making patterns.

Understanding the World

This week we will be thinking about the ingredients that we would use to make chocolate cake and how they would change during the cake making process. 

Please support this by making your own cakes for our Easter Observation Challenge.

We will be going for a walk around the school grounds looking for ‘Signs of Spring’

RE 

We will be having a look at a Presentation about different Easter traditions in the UK and sharing any things we like to do at Easter with our families.

Expressive Arts

This week we will be making patterns and  designing our own Easter Eggs. We will also have an opportunity to go and watch the year 2 Easter Bonnet Parade.
