Noticeboard
- Our WOW day will be on Tuesday 4th May 2021. We are inviting children to dress up as an animal or an explorer.
- We will continue to aim to get outside as much as possible so they really need a waterproof coat each day.
- If there are any changes to your childs usual pick up routines, please email the class email address to let the teachers know. Thank you.
Week 1 celebrations
We really enjoyed launching our topic ‘Into the Wild’ with the children last week. The children loved acting out the story ‘Owl Babies’ and recapping partitioning two digit numbers. We all really enjoyed the music lesson where the children learnt about pitch and used their voices outside to sing songs in small groups.

Week 2
English
Writing:
Last week, we acted out the story ‘Owl Babies’, wrote a setting description and sequenced it. This week, the children are going to be rewriting the story. They will write it over two days and then use a checklist to edit their work to ensure they have included what we have asked them to include. If they haven’t they will get a chance to add these things in during the editing session (see list below).
Capital letters at the beginning of each sentence |
Full stops at the end of each sentence |
A question |
Contractions (she’ll, didn’t, isn’t, can’t) |
Coordinating conjunctions (for, and, nor, but, so, or, yet) |
Subordinating conjunctions (because, when, if, once, as) |
Reading:
This week we will continue our introduction to whole class reading through looking at non -fiction texts about owls. We will focus on retrieving answers from the text.
Focus spellings: find, kind, mind, behind, because, both, every, pretty, busy, parents
Grammar:
This week we are going to be recapping the previous learning about how to use apostrophes for contractions (she’ll, didn’t, he’s, we’re) and what verbs are.
Maths:
In maths this week we are continuing to consolidate our knowledge of place value and number. We will be focusing on counting in 2s, 5s, 10s, and 3s. To support this at home you could practise these counting skills any time you have an opportunity, which really helps the children to learn these patterns by rote. Perhaps on the way to school, or just before bed, counting in 2s, 5s, and 10s forwards and backwards will really support your child’s quick recall.
PSHE
We will be continuing to think about health in PSHE. The children will design a healthy plate of food and think about why different food groups are good for their bodies.
RE
This week we are continuing our theme of ‘Special Places’. We will be playing a game, guessing why particular objects are of significance to each other and suggesting reasons why they might be special.
Music
This week we will continue working on pitch. We will be learning to recognise high, middle and low sounds and to discriminate between changes in pitch.
