Year 2 – Term 6, Week 4

Noticeboard

  • We will continue to aim to get outside as much as possible so they really need a waterproof coat each day.
  • Please continue to use Bug Club books, as well as those your child is bringing home.
  • Your child should have brought any lines home that they need to learn for the play (if they have a speaking part). Please help them to learn the lines.
  • Please see information below regarding the learning shares on Wednesday 7th July.

Learning share

We will be inviting one parent for each child to come to our ‘Learning Share’  to be held on the class patios on Wednesday 7th July. This will be a chance for you to look through your child’s work with them. In small groups you will be able to come into the classroom to take a look around and see where all their amazing learning has been taking place. Full social distancing will need to be observed. Please bring a pen with you because you will have the opportunity to complete the parent view for your child’s report whilst you are sharing their work with them.

Class 7 and 9 – 2:30 pm – 3:15 pm (odds)

Class 8 – 9:10 am – 9:55 am (evens)

Week 3 celebrations

The children have been working really hard this week despite being tired from their busy weekends! They have all been working like the creative unicorn to write their own stories based on the story ‘Lila and the Secret of Rain’. We are really excited for you to read them when you come to our learning share time in Week 5.  In maths, the children have been working hard to group and share to develop their division skills. They have had lots of opportunities to use resources and draw pictures to help them work out the answers to number sentences. They have then used their knowledge and made links like the spider to apply to problem solving questions.

Week 4

The children will be going to the Junior School to meet their new teacher for the second time on Thursday afternoon.

English

Writing:

In writing this week, we are continuing to use the book Lila and the Secret of Rain as our hook. You can watch a video of the story by clicking here. The children will be writing a call and response song for Lila and the villagers to sing while they are celebrating the rain falling. They will also be writing down memories using the past tense. As this will be our last week focusing on this book, the children will be writing a book review to tell somebody else about the story and if they would or would not recommend it.

Reading:

This week, we will use the story Lila and the Secret of Rain to practise our fluency, pitch and timing when reading aloud. As a whole class, we will practise retrieving answers from a text and making inferences using our background knowledge. In whole class reading, the children will individually practise applying these skills as well as looking at vocabulary from the Lila and the Secret of Rain and asking questions that we have about the text.

Spelling and Grammar:

We will focus on adding the suffixes ing, ed, er and est to root words. We will also look at the rule of doubling the consonant of the end of a word when adding a suffix and dropping the e from the end of the word when the suffix begins with a vowel.

Maths:

This week we are learning to tell the time! We will be focusing on telling the time to o’clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to. We will also be looking at the duration of hours and day. You can support this at home by practising counting in 5s and using a clock or watch at home with your children. There are lots of telling the time games your child can play at home. Click here to view the list.

RE:

We are going to be talking about the reasons why different people have different views and the connections they make. The children will be thinking about something that puzzles or interests them.

Music and Drama:

We are going to continue learning the songs for our end of year play. We will also be starting to act out some of the scenes. Please help your child to learn their lines if they have a speaking part.

PSHE:

This week we will be thinking about body parts of boys and girls bodies and naming them. You should have received an email at the beginning of this term about this PSHE topic explaining to you the content that will be covered.

PE:

We are going to be practising the Sports Day races.

Please click here to access the planning if you are self isolating.
