Reception – Term 2, Week 7

Noticeboard and dates

  • Tuesday 14th December – Unfortunately, with the current circumstances we have had to take the decision to cancel our visit to St Peter’s Church. We will still be doing singing with the children and endeavour to make it a special morning.
  • Tuesday 14th December – Christmas dinner day. If your child would not like the Christmas dinner option, please provide them with a packed lunch. There will be no wraps, jacket potatoes or pasta options.
  • Wednesday 15th December – You will receive the second part of your child’s learning diary on the Evidence Me app. Alongside these observations, you will see a photo of your child in their nativity costume. This may be an individual or group photo. Thank you for all of your parent contributions to your child’s learning diary this term.
  • Thursday 16th December – Christmas parties, please bring in the food that you signed up for on the sign up sheet that was outside the classroom a few weeks ago. Celebrations

The children really loved performing the Nativity to parents this week. If you were unable to attend, we hope you have watched the video recording that was sent to you via email. Our children enjoyed meeting the children from Claremont School when they came to visit us. We sang songs from the Nativity play to the Claremont children on the patio.

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

As well as finding ways to find times to be calm and peaceful amidst all the excitement, we will be thinking about how to stand up for ourselves using words if someone is unkind. We will  be teaching the children to say, ‘Please don’t do that, I don’t like it’ when someone does or says something to them that they don’t like. We will explain that if they hear those words they have to stop.

Communication and Language

This week, we will be retelling stories including Spinderella, as well as some Christmas ones too. The children will continue to develop their language in our Christmas role play areas.

Word of the week: digraph

Physical Development

To support our oral health we have a visit from a Dentist to teach and encourage children to brush their teeth. We will be exploring shapes in our seated static balances by stretching our bodies and scrunching up tight. In dance we will be exploring some of the Nutcracker suite.

This week we will be applying our phonics skills to write words and short sentences, using digraphs, trigraphs and single letter phonemes learnt so far.
