If you have any old cutlery lying around please could you send it in with your child next week to help us create our large sculpture in the style of Subodh Gupta. Here is an example of his work. (Please note – You will not get it back!)

English

Reading:

This week we will be completing additional individual reading assessments with all children. This will replace group guided reads for this week, however there will be a range of reading skills activities for children to complete to develop their range of reading skills. If you have any queries about reading book levels, please do use the class email to contact your class teacher.

Please can we ask that children’s books and reading records are brought in DAILY. Many thanks for your support with this and thank you for keeping up with regular reads and recording in the reading records: regular reading of your child’s levelled reading books at home makes a significant impact on their progress.

Phonics:

We continue daily blending revision to help us apply our segmenting and blending skills to unfamiliar words.

Spelling and Grammar (SPAG):

Please see below for our termly plan. Next week we will be assessing children’s application of the CEWs taught in term 2. Please see the list below in order to help support them at home:

Writing:

In writing this week our key text is ‘The Way Back Home’ by Oliver Jeffers.

The children will really immerse themselves in the text by completing a range of fun and engaging activities such as:

  • Creating word art
  • Unpicking key vocabulary and phrases
  • Role playing the characters
  • Writing speech bubbles to go with the illustrations
  • Using puppets to retell the story
  • Creating story maps to retell the story

Maths

This week’s maths is all about measuring length in centimetres and metres. We have lots of fun practical tasks lined up to help children perfect their measuring skills! We will use rulers to measure using centimetres and try measuring larger objects and distances in metres. We will also be using the <, > and = symbols to compare lengths and practise putting lengths in order.

Knowledge and Understanding of the World (Topic)

This week we are thinking about Internet Safety Day on 8th February. To mark this day we have a number of teaching and learning activities the children will be involved in which emphasize the importance of being safe on the internet.

In Design Technology we are thinking about how vehicles work. We will be exploring different axles and wheels in preparation for designing and making our own Luna Rover which will move independently, powered by wind.

Religion and World Views

In R + WV we are continuing with our miracle booklets, learning about the miracle of Jesus feeding a crowd of 5000 people with only 2 fish and 5 loaves.

PSHE

In PSHE we will be continuing with our bird garden pictures and creating a calming display of them in the classroom so the children can use this space as a place to relax and think.
