Celebrations: 

Class 7 got very creative in ELLI time using Kapla bricks. They built a city called ‘Kapla city’.

English 

Phonics:              

We continue daily blending revision to help us apply our segmenting and blending skills to unfamiliar words.

 Spelling and Grammar (SPAG):

This term we will be revising the CEWs we started learning last term to ensure that children are secure in reading and spelling them. You can support your child at home this term by regularly revising these.

  • This week in spelling we will learning ‘tion’ suffixes e.g. emotion, addition, subtraction.
  • This week our grammar focus will be identifying word classes e.g. nouns, adjectives, verbs and adverbs.

Reading:

This week we meet Rex Retriever who will help us answer questions about the text.! In reading sessions we will also be reading about the hindu festival of Holi. Classes will also begin to visit and explore the new library.

Writing: 

We will continue with our poetry work. The children will read, interpret and write haikus. Haikus are short poems with a rigid syllabic structure. The first line always has 5 syllables, the middle line has 7 syllables and the final line has 5 syllables. Here is an example:

Maths

We will end our unit of work on fractions this week by finding ¾ of a number and counting in fractions. After this we will begin our new unit on ‘time’ by recapping key concepts from Year 1 such as telling the time to the hour and half past the hour as well as quarter past and quarter to the hour. 

Knowledge and Understanding of the World (Topic)

In science this week we will continue with our Animals, including Humans topic and learning about food chains. Children will be exploring different vocabulary such as producer, consumer, predator, prey and they will be creating their own food chains. 

Religion and World Views

In R+WV this week we will be learning about a parable Jesus told about being rich and what he calls ‘The Kingdom of Heaven’. The children will be watching this clip and discussing the meaning behind it Jesus’ parable of the camel through the eye of a needle. They will then create a story map of what happened. 

PSHE

This week we will be discussing how medicines work in our body and how important it is to use them safely. As well as  how to feel positive about caring for my body and keeping it healthy.
