Noticeboard

  • If your child finishes one side of their bookmark, meaning they are due a certificate, please let your child’s class teacher know. We do not check them ourselves, we rely on you telling us – thank you!
  • Monday Mile – Now that the weather is getting warmer, field is not as damp, therefore the children no longer need to wear their wellies to school on a Monday for our Monday Mile.
  • Every child needs to bring their book, book bag and reading record into school everyday.
  • Please do not allow your child to play with the resources that have been set up on the patio before school (including the mountain and the bikes/scooters). Please pass this on to any adults who bring your child to school.
  • Phonics and letter formation document (click here
  • Please remember to read the phonetically decodable reading book with your child everyday.

Celebrations

This week, we have started our Minibeast topic. The children have enjoyed playing in their new role play areas and searching for minibeasts on the patio.

In PSHE, we learned about parts of our bodies.

The children have also been partially enjoying learning on the patio as the weather has been good and using props in their role play.

Week 2 Learning

This week, we are having a whole school topic about the Queen’s Jubilee.

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

We will continue our daily circle times and wellbeing activities as appropriate for each class, as well as thinking about ways to be kind at school.

Communication and Language

This week, the children will be immersed in learning about the Queen’s Jubilee and will be reading the Queen Elizabeth II book. The children will be encouraged to share their photos from any celebrations they were part of (e.g. street parties or watching celebrations).

Word of the week: Jubilee

Physical Development

We will have a variety of team activities to support the children to get ready for sports day. The focus is working as a team and doing our best. We will be reminding children that if they do not win a race, they might be dissapointed but it is good to take part and be pleased for the team who did win.

Literacy

Please continue to use the phonics and common exception word grid with your child to practice all the phonemes and ‘CEW’ we have learnt so far. We suggest doing this alongside their daily reading.

Click here to access our GPC (grapheme phoneme correspondence) and common exception word mat.

This week we will master our Phase 4 learning, learning about adjacent consonants.

Please support your child at home to practise their letter formation. Click here to see the correct letter formation and ‘script’ we use in school to support children to form their letters. This will ensure consistency between home and school.

This week we will read with your child either 1:1 or in a small guided reading session. Please continue to read with your child every day to improve their fluency with a text. Ask your child questions about the characters, what they think might happen next and discuss/ explain what they think is happening in the pictures.

Writing –This week we will be writing a dictated sentence about the Queen.

Maths

This week, we will continue to learn about doubles. The children are getting really speedy at recalling them quickly. On your way to school, you could ask your children to recall doubles facts e.g. “What is double 5?”. We will also be learning about spatial reasoning. We will prompt them to use positional language to describe where objects are in relation to other items.

Understanding the World

We are going to have ladybird larvae to study in each class. Children will be encouraged to be gentle and careful with all the minibeasts that they come across as spring progresses. We will be thinking about the Queens Jubilee and investigating a Discovery Box from the Fire Service.

Religion and Worldviews

Using our book “Queen Elizabeth II, the Queen who chose to serve” we will be thinking how the Queen’s Christian faith has guided her.

Expressive Arts and Design

This week we will be joining in lots of jubilee celebrations, making crowns, flags and bunting!
