    • Please return all library books by Friday 8th July.
    • Please return all reading books and class reading for pleasure books by Friday 15th July.
  • If your child finishes one side of their bookmark, meaning they are due a certificate, please let your child’s class teacher know. We do not check them ourselves, we rely on you telling us – thank you!
  • Monday Mile – Now that the weather is getting warmer, the field is not as damp, therefore the children no longer need to wear their wellies to school on a Monday for our Monday Mile.
  • Every child needs to bring their book, book bag and reading record into school everyday.
  • Please do not allow your child to play with the resources that have been set up on the patio before school (including the mountain and the bikes/scooters). Please pass this on to any adults who bring your child to school.
  • Phonics and letter formation document (click here
  • Please remember to read the phonetically decodable reading book with your child everyday.

Celebrations

This week was our Spitrited Arts week. The children loved creating a picture of something natural and writing about why it is so special to them. Alongside this, the final group finished their Forest School sessions as the weather was too hot to start a fire a few weeks ago. Thankfully they were able to light a fire this week like all of the other groups did.

Star of the Week

Class 1 – Josh

Class2 – Joey

Class 3 – Cliona

Evidence Me – Observation request

Each class has voted to learn more about a particular minibeast. Class 2 and 3 have chosen a ladybird and Class 1 have chosen a spider. Please support your child to research and learn about their classes chosen minibeast and ask them to write down one fact about it. Please submit this as an observation on Evidence Me, but also bring it into school so we can make a collaborative poster about the animal. We will then present our learning to the other classes during our Reception assembly on Thursday.

Please click here to view the Evidence Me parents guide.

Week 5 Learning

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

This week in our topic of “Changing Me”, we are thinking about our emotions around moving on to Year 1, both looking forward with excitement and what to do with any worries.

Communication and Language

For the past few weeks, the children have been thinking about a minibeast that they would like to know more about. This week, the key text will be based on that minibeast, meaning each class will be focusing on a different animal. They will be encouraged to tell each other facts and ask questions about the chosen minibeast.

Word of the week: agility

Physical Development

We are going to be working on ball skills as we race balls, chase them and bounce them and catch them.

Literacy

Please continue to use the phonics and common exception word grid with your child to practice all the phonemes and ‘CEW’ we have learnt so far. We suggest doing this alongside their daily reading.

Click here to access our GPC (grapheme phoneme correspondence) and common exception word mat.

This week we will master our Phase 4 learning, learning about adjacent consonants and focusing on pl, pr, sc, sp, sk, sw, tr, tw.

Please support your child at home to practise their letter formation. Click here to see the correct letter formation and ‘script’ we use in school to support children to form their letters. This will ensure consistency between home and school.

This week we will read with your child either 1:1 or in a small guided reading session. Please continue to read with your child every day to improve their fluency with a text. Ask your child questions about the characters, what they think might happen next and discuss/ explain what they think is happening in the pictures.

Writing – This week we will be writing a minibeast factfile.

Maths

Our focus will be problem solving again this week. The children will be given more time and more opportunities to engage in extended problem solving and develop their critical thinking skills.

Understanding the World

We will be documenting the metamorphosis of our ladybirds and releasing them into the wild. We will continuing to talk about how things change as living things grow including children. Classes will investigate their chosen minibeast using secondary sources and reporting back to the whole of reception. We will be working with the Green Ambassadors from the Junior school to do some planting.

Religion and Worldviews

Following on from our spectacular artwork for the Spirited Arts competition about our wonderful world, we will learn about what Christians believe about why we should care for our planet, and some of the ways they may do this.

Expressive Arts and Design

This week we will be continuing our music lessons learning to compose and perform a four beat rhythm.
