Reception – Term 6, Week 6

Noticeboard

  • Please return all books that belong to school before the summer holiday.
    • You should have already returned your child’s library books. If you have not done this yet, please return them ASAP to your child’s class teacher.
    • Please return all reading books and class reading for pleasure books by Friday 15th July.
  • If your child finishes one side of their bookmark, meaning they are due a certificate, please let your child’s class teacher know. We do not check them ourselves, we rely on you telling us – thank you! Children who have achieved their Head Teachers award will receive these at the same time at the end of the school year.
  • Monday Mile – Now that the weather is getting warmer, the field is not as damp, therefore the children no longer need to wear their wellies to school on a Monday for our Monday Mile.
  • Every child needs to bring their book, book bag and reading record into school everyday.
  • Please do not allow your child to play with the resources that have been set up on the patio before school (including the mountain and the bikes/scooters). Please pass this on to any adults who bring your child to school.
  • Phonics and letter formation document (click here
  • Please remember to read the phonetically decodable reading book with your child everyday.

Celebrations

This week, the children have loved continuing to learn about their chosen minibeast. They have continued to add to our minibeast hotel and spot minibeasts around the school grounds. The children enjoyed writing some amazing facts about their classes’ chosen minibeast too. Next week, they will be presenting what they have learnt as a class to the other Reception children. Alongside this, the children spent times in their new classes and in their classrooms, as well as in the Reception area to enable them to start building new friendships and relationships.

Evidence Me – Observation request

Religion and World views. Since Easter, we have been thinking about the question “How should we live our lives?”  This week, we are learning about the golden rule “Love others as you would like them to love you.” Please send in a picture to Evidence Me of something you could do to be kind to someone else.

Please click here to view the Evidence Me parents guide.

Week 6 Learning

In Week 6, we will start thinking about our whole school topic; Journeys. The children will be thinking about lots of different journeys, including their journey through school and into Year 1.

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

We will continue our work on expressing our feelings about moving to Year 1, including transition activities.

Communication and Language

This week and until the end of the term, we will be joining the whole school community by basing our learning around the book ‘Journey by Aaron Becker’. The story has no words so they will be encouraged to use the pictures to tell the story using their own words. They will also to act it out.

Word of the week: voyage

Physical Development

We will be exploring floor work in PE this week. This will involve both movement and balance as we pretend to be cats with specific challenges going over and through obstacles.

Literacy

Please continue to use the phonics and common exception word grid with your child to practice all the phonemes and ‘CEW’ we have learnt so far. We suggest doing this alongside their daily reading.

Click here to access our GPC (grapheme phoneme correspondence) and common exception word mat.

This week we will master our Phase 4 learning, learning about adjacent consonants and focusing onsp, st, sc, thr, shr, nch.

Please support your child at home to practise their letter formation. Click here to see the correct letter formation and ‘script’ we use in school to support children to form their letters. This will ensure consistency between home and school.

This week we will read with your child either 1:1 or in a small guided reading session. Please continue to read with your child every day to improve their fluency with a text. Ask your child questions about the characters, what they think might happen next and discuss/ explain what they think is happening in the pictures.

Writing – This week we will be writing about a journey we have been on e.g on an airplane or boat.

Maths

This week we will be building on our learning about patterns. They will also continue to learn about copying, continuing and creating a wide range of repeating patterns. The children will also deepen their understanding of number bonds to 10.

Understanding the World

This week each class will present what they have learnt about their chosen minibeast to the other two classes. This will include sharing pictures and knowledge including their home learning (thank you!).

Religion and Worldviews

Since Easter, we have been thinking about the question “How should we live our lives?” We have thought about people who guide us, rules in our classes and stories which tell us about good ways to live (both non-religious and religious including stories from Islam and Buddhism). This week, we are learning about Christian and Jewish rules- the Ten Commandments and then hearing about what Jesus said is the most important rule. We will learn the Golden Rule – treat others as you would like them to treat you, which is found in many different faiths.

Expressive Arts and Design

This week we will be making hot air balloons to symbolise our journey to Year One. These will be used as a class display in your child’s new class.
