Term 6 Week 6

We are excited to welcome you into school on Tuesday and Wednesday to watch our school play. We are really looking forward to showing you how hard we have worked over the term.

This week: Annual Reports will be sent home on Wednesday of this week.
Advance warning:

In the final week of term we will be asking the children to bring in some ingredients for our maths sessions where we will be looking at measurement. We will be weighing out ingredients to make some tasty treats! Keep your eyes peeled for a message detailing what we will need you to bring in and when.

We will always aim to get outside, whatever the weather, as much as possible so children will really need a waterproof coat each day.

English

Spelling and Grammar (SPAG):

Spelling

We will be practising our spelling of Common Exception Words this week and seeing if we can spell them correctly in dictated sentences.

Reading:

One to one reading will take priority this week alongside play rehearsing. Please keep writing in your child’s reading journal and marking off their book mark after a daily read. At the end of the year, all children who have completed 2 bookmarks (4 sides) will receive a special headteacher’s award and book of their choice to keep as part of our Read For the Stars incentive.

Writing

This week we are introducing our whole school topic of journeys and using the text Journey by Aaron Becker to inspire our learning. This beautiful book is a story with no words so the pictures help us to be creative about what is happening. You can watch the book being read here. We will be writing a newspaper report, a recount of a journey and a letter to the author asking him about his inspiration for writing the book.

Maths

This week in maths we will continue using information technology (IT) to apply our maths skills. We will use continue to use spreadsheets to add amounts and create graphs.

Knowledge and Understanding of the World (Topic)

R + WV

In R+WV this week we will be recapping all the key places of worship we have looked at this year and to consolidate our knowledge of religious symbols.

PSHE

In PSHE we will be thinking ahead to the transition to Year 3. We will think about the changes we will face and discuss how we feel about this. We will also decide what change the children would like to make for themselves (e.g to improve handwriting, to make more friends, to become confident at Maths, etc.)
