Reception – Term 1, Week 4

Noticeboard:

  • We will be sharing about our different families this week. Please send in a photo of your child’s family either to the class email, or printed out.
  • 27th September 22 – Reception Parents’ Reading Meeting at 3:10pm in the school hall (change of location!)
  • 5th October 22 – Reception Curriculum meeting at 6:00pm in the school hall.
  • Please do not allow your child to play with the resources that are on the Reception patio in the morning. These have been carefully positioned and are there to support your child’s learning during the school day.
  • Please remember to send your child to school everyday with a coat. We like to go outside in all weathers. 
  • Children are only to bring water to school, not squash. 
  • Please return your child’s drawing and the ‘All About Me’ sheet that were given to you when you visited school with your child. 

Celebrations:

The children have settled into school really well. They have been continuing to build relationships with one another and their key adults. 

This week’s learning:

This week, we will continue to learn about the ELLI Owl, using Owl Babies as our key text.

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

This week we will be talking about different feelings and thinking about what we can do if we feel sad or upset.

Communication and Language

The children will be acting out the story of the Owl Babies. 

Physical Development

We will be practising our fine motor skills with activities involving lots of resources e.g. playdough, paintbrushes, pompoms, lego, pens and pencils. We will be exploring our gross motor skills using lots of resources e.g. bikes, trikes and scooters, ribbons, bats and balls and climbing on the mountain.

Literacy

This week we continue with Phase 2 phonics and we  will be teaching the children the phonemes i, n, m and d. The children will learn these phonemes (sounds) and practise writing them in isolation and in words.

Maths

This week, we will be comparing quantities using the language “greater than”, “less than” or “the same as”. 

Understanding the World

We will be learning new facts and vocabulary about owls. We will be continuing to make new friends and get used to our school day. We will be talking about differences and similarities between school and nursery.

Religion and Worldviews

We will be talking about our families and people who are important to us.

Expressive Arts and Design

Children will continue to have a chance to make an ELLI owl using a paper plate and a range of other media that will go on display in the main hall.
