Year 2 News – Term 1 Week 4

We have had such and fun and busy start to Year 2. We are so impressed with how the children have settled into the new school year and are focused on their learning.

We kicked off our Knights and Castles topic with an amazing Wow Day. Check the displays outside the classrooms to see our amazing costumes! We have enjoyed lots of learning based around this exciting topic.

We have been learning more about the ELLI animals and how they can help us to become brilliant learners. ELLI stands for “Effective Lifelong Learning Inventory” and each animal promotes a different skill for learning. Studying the animals supports the children’s understanding of ways to learn and provides language they can use to talk about their learning. Look out for ELLI displays around the school to find out more, especially the amazing art work in the hall!

This week the ELLI animals have helped with our descriptive writing around the text, ‘Tell Me a Dragon’. We worked like the tortoise to write as much as we could, asked questions like the curious cat to find out more about dragons; we worked in teams, like the busy bee, to make detailed mind maps of ways to describe our dragons. Finally, like the web-weaving spider, we brought all these things together to write a description of our own pet dragon.

The children have really enjoyed learning about Motown – they love singing and moving to the music!
