English

Writing:

This week we will be writing up our instructions about how to plant a seed. We will then be writing them onto an envelope to create our own seed packets. We will be using time adverbials and putting the instructions in chronological order.

Reading:

We will continue to practise our reading skills using the Totally Pawsome Gang. If you’d like to support this at home, you can practise some ‘Inference Iggy’ questions with your child. Here are some examples:

  • How do you think this character is feeling? Why do you think that?
  • What do you think the author meant when…?
  • Why do you think the author uses this particular word?
  • What effect did the author want to create by…?
  • Find words which show how the character feels about…
  • How do you know that the character is feeling…?

Spelling:

This term we will be revising the CEWs we started learning last term to ensure that children are secure in reading and spelling them. You can support your child at home this term by regularly revising these.

Maths

In maths this week we will continue consolidating our understanding of addition and subtraction equations. We will use many different strategies to answer more complex problems and have a go at some Secret Agent Training!

Knowledge and Understanding of the World (Topic)

After planting seeds last week, the children will expand their knowledge of seeds and bulbs by closely observing a range of different seeds, seedlings, bulbs, pieces of fruit and other plants. The children will create some observational drawings

In art this week, the children will put their new sketching skills from last week into practice! The children will sketch in the style of the illustrations in our class text ‘The Tin Forest’.

Religion and World Views

We will be learning about Eid and Ramadan this week in Religion and World Views. Some of our staff and pupils will have celebrated Eid on Friday. We will discuss why Ramadan is important to Muslims and think about how Eid is celebrated.
