Reception – Term 5, Week 5

This is the final week of term. Children are invited to wear non-uniform on Friday and to bring in a contribution to FHIS.

School reopens on Monday 6th June.

Noticeboard

  • Could you please make sure children have a change of shoes suitable for PE in their PE kits as most of our PE will be outside this term. Thank you.
  • During our first week back after the holidays we will be writing about things that we may have done already to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee or about other things we have done during our week off school. If you could send in any photos, either printed off or via your class email that would be great to aid our discussions.
  • READING FOR THE STARS – It is wonderful to see so many children engaged in our Read for the Stars incentive. Certificates have been flying out in celebration assembly and some children are nearly on the last side of their second bookmark! We just wanted to remind all children that the crown prize for achieving this many reads is a very special head teacher’s book (which will be given as part of special end of year celebrations). Keep up with all your fantastic efforts: I think Mrs Hibbard is going to be very busy ordering LOTS of books for children at Henleaze Infants School.
  • If your child finishes one side of their bookmark, meaning they are due a certificate, please let your child’s class teacher know. We do not check them ourselves, we rely on you telling us – thank you!
  • Monday Mile – Now that the weather is getting warmer, field is not as damp, therefore the children no longer need to wear their wellies to school on a Monday for our Monday Mile.
  • Every child needs to bring their book, book bag and reading record into school everyday.

Celebrations

With the weather warming up, it has been great to spend even more time outside. This week, the children have been noticed being like the ELLI Unicorn as they have brought so much imagination into their play.

The children from Claremont came over to play with us on the patio on Monday and Tuesday. This will continue for the rest of the year.

The children scattered wild flower seeds in the outside area and made signs to tell people not to walk on them.

We have been learning about pointillism in Art. The children have used photos of their garden or a familiar outdoor space to create their pointillism artwork.

Evidence Me – Observation request

When you playing ball games together, please send in a photo or video of your child catching and throwing a large or small ball. This is what we have been practising in PE.

Please click here to view the Evidence Me parents guide.

Week 3 Learning

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

This week we will be celebrating all the ways we can be good friends.

Communication and Language

We will be continuing to read Jack and the Beanstalk. The children will be acting the story out too.

Word of the week: documenting

Physical Development

We will be learning about catching and throwing balls with control, at various distances, with a partner. We will be including bounces and claps in between bounces.

Literacy

Please continue to use the phonics and common exception word grid with your child to practice all the phonemes and ‘CEW’ we have learnt so far. We suggest doing this alongside their daily reading.

Click here to access our GPC (grapheme phoneme correspondence) and common exception word mat.

This week we will continue with our Phase 4 learning, learning about adjacent consonants.  Our focus this week will be ‘sp, st, sw, tr, tw’. For example ‘sp’ in the word ‘spot’.

We will also be focusing on these common exception words: what, out.

Please support your child at home to practise their letter formation. Click here to see the correct letter formation and ‘script’ we use in school to support children to form their letters. This will ensure consistency between home and school.

This week we will read with your child either 1:1 or in a small guided reading session. Please continue to read with your child every day to improve their fluency with a text. Ask your child questions about the characters, what they think might happen next and discuss/ explain what they think is happening in the pictures.

Writing –This week we will be designing a class book around what our character we designed from last week would wish for if they had a magic bean.

Maths

This week, we are going to continue learning about subtraction. Alongside this, the children will be thinking about spatial reasoning.

Understanding the World

As our class sowing continues to bloom we will be documenting what is happening in lots of ways. We will be measuring growth, counting leaves and taking photographs. We will be talking about the passing of time and plant growth. We have nurtured the plants collaboratively, like the ELLI bee.

Religion and Worldviews

Continuing our theme “How should we live our lives?”,  we will be hearing 2 Buddhist stories: Siddhartha and the Swan, and The Monkey King.

Expressive Arts and Design

This week we will be continuing with our animal rhythm music lessons, focusing on the difference between pulse and rhythm.
