Year 2 News – Term 2, Week 1

Thank you to everyone who was able to attend Open Morning this week. The children really enjoyed sharing their work and celebrating their achievements so far. They have made so much progress already and have settled brilliantly into Year 2! We look forward to catching up with parents in our parents’ evenings next week.

We are having a short break from our usual reading carousel over these first few weeks to really focus on reading and comprehension skills. We have introduced ’60 Second Reads’, which enable the children to improve their reading fluency. We have also introduced the ‘Pawsome Gang’ – a group of lovely dogs whovhelp us to identify the type of information a question is asking for.

We have also had a skills-based week for writing, getting to grips with using the past and present tense. It is very important that the children are able to keep the tense consistent in their writing.

The children have really enjoyed learning about the rain forest this week and already knew a lot about how rain forests are being threatened. We focused on comparing the climate in rain forests to the climate in the UK and looking at where rain forests are located on the world map.

We have been working with money in maths and have been using knowledge of place value to combine totals using pounds and pence. Please make the most of any opportunities to use money with your children at home or when out and about.
