Reception News – Term 2 Week 5

We are so excited to perform the Nativity to you on Wednesday 11th December at 9:30am. We have practiced it every morning this week. The children have tried their outfits on and perfected their singing. Bring your tissues!! Each class has put their Christmas tree up and now has a Christmas role play area too.

The Reception children have started to learn digraphs. Digraphs are a combination of two letters representing one sound. This week they have learnt ch and sh. You can find the Jolly Phonics digraphs songs by clicking this link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DAtgZb2NZpI. They have continued to recap the common exception words and learnt was and my. You will notice we have not read with the children this week as we have been assessing their phonic knowledge. The children have written a letter to Santa!

In maths this week, we have been comparing two groups of items up to 10. The children have been looking at pictorial representations and attempting to write their own number sentences to match the picture. For example, a picture of 3 fish and 2 crabs – 3+2=5. We have also started to think about repeating patterns e.g. red, blue, red, blue or green, green, orange, green, green, orange. We have loved seeing the children make these in their play. They have made Christmas rapping paper using shapes dipped in paint to make repeating patterns.

Red group have continued to enjoy Forest School with Vicki and the Hideaway Forest School team. They have been cutting wood and making candle holders this week. All of the groups will have a chance to take part, look out for a letter in your child’s book bag!

Please sign up to help us walk to the church for our service on 18th December 2019. It stars at 2pm, however we would need you to be at school at 1:15pm. If you are able to help, sign up sheets are on each class’ notice board.
