Reception News – Term 2 Week 6

Thank you to everybody who came to see the wonderful Reception Nativity on Wednesday. We appreciate all of the kind words and think the children put on a wonderful show. Next week will be another busy week with lots of Christmas activities.

Dates for next week:

Wednesday 18th December – If you would like to join us to sing some carols, please come to St Peter’s Church at 2pm. Thank you to those who have signed up to help the classes walk to the church on Wednesday afternoon. The children will also have the option of having a Christmas dinner at school. This will take place during the normal school day.

Thursday 19th December – Class Christmas party day! There is now a sign-up sheet on each class’ noticeboard for food donations. If your child has any allergies, please speak to your class teacher about alternative arrangements. There will be a pantomime show for the children too! Children are able to come to school in their party clothes and wear them all day.

Friday 20th December – Christmas jumper day. Children are invited to wear a Christmas jumper as part of a non-school uniform day.

Christmas crafts have been continuing in Reception and we have done some cooking. We made some lovely Christmas biscuits and enjoyed eating them!

The children have continued to learn digraphs this week. They have learnt th/th and ng. We have continued to recap the letters, common exception words and blending CVC, CVCC and CCVC words. Please remember to write in your child’s reading record every night when you read with them. We look at your comments on a weekly basis and find it really useful to know how they are reading to you at home.

In maths this week, we have continued to work on pattern alongside addition. The children have continued to make wonderful patterns inside and outside on the patio, which have been supported by whole class carpet maths sessions. We have also continued to combine two groups of objects particularly using the part-part whole model. The children have loved using this model independently in their play as you can see from the photos below.
