Reception News – Term 3, Week 3

Thank you to all of the parents who came into school to help the children build their wonderful 3D shape models. The children are very proud of them and will bring them home on Friday afternoon to show you. Please talk to them about the 3D shapes they have used.

This week the children have continued to enjoy the Bear Hunt topic. In phonics, the children have been learning more digraphs; ar, oa, oo and the tricky word ‘are’. They have written sentences about the story, for example ‘They went through the swishy swashy grass.’ Please could we politely remind you to ensure you read with your child on a daily basis and record this in their reading record. This comment doesn’t have to be long; it can be as simple as a smiley face. In the inside cover of most of the books, there are lots of ideas about how you can use the book to support your child’s reading.

The children’s have been feeling water and corn flour, pretending they were mud and the river from the story. They also had a visit from Lucy from the Wild Place who told us all about the bears they have. The children and teachers learnt a lot!

In maths, the children have continued to learn about 3D shapes. They have been finding them in the environment and have been very keen to show us!

During week 5 (w/c 3rd February 2020), we are going to be running another parent helper project. This time, it will be a threading activity to make icicles using patterns. If you would like to help your child’s class, please sign up on the timetable on the class noticeboard.

We will also be looking for a couple of regular helpers to support each class. You will need to be able to commit to the same time to come in to school to help each week. If you are interested, please speak to your class teacher. We will continue to run projects (e.g. 3D models/threading) where parents are able to sign up on a more casual basis.
