Term 4 Week 3

Celebrations:

On Friday we celebrated World Book Day. There were many fantastic characters that the children enjoyed dressing up as. We also took part in a drama workshop learning how to use our voices and express them in different ways.

Here are our class photos:

Noticeboard

We will always aim to get outside, whatever the weather, as much as possible so children will really need a waterproof coat each day.

English

Phonics:

We continue daily blending revision to help us apply our segmenting and blending skills to unfamiliar words.

 Spelling and Grammar (SPAG):

This term we will be revising the CEWs we started learning last term to ensure that children are secure in reading and spelling them. You can support your child at home this term by regularly revising these.

1.     After2.     Bath3.     Beautiful4.     Break5.     Class6.     Even7.     Fast8.     Father9.     Grass10.  Great11.  Improve12.  Last13.  Move14.  Pass15.  Past16.  Path17.  Plant18.  Pretty19.  Prove20.  Steak21.  Sure

We will be revisiting how to use exclamation marks as part of our SPAG focus this week.

This week we will also be adding the endings -ing, -ed, -er, -est and -y to words ending in -e with a consonant before it.

If you wish to support your children further with their spelling in conjunction with their upcoming learning you could practise these spellings with them:

  • Writing
  • Latest
  • Shaking
  • Safest
  • Wiser
  • Having
  • Taking
  • Loved
  • Saving

Reading:

We will continue to practise our reading skills using the Totally Pawsome Gang. This week we will be looking at Rex Retriever.

To help your child practise these skills at home you can ask them these questions when reading with them:

Writing:

This week we will continue our block of poetry lessons. We will write our own diamante poem based on our plans from last week and then move on to learning about and writing our own haikus.

Maths

We will continue our fraction work this week. We will be focusing on the following learning objectives:

  • Understand what is meant by non-unit fractions and recognise these fractions in different contexts.
  • Understand the meaning of ‘equivalence’ and understand that ½ and 2/4 are equivalent fractions.
  • To find three quarters of an amount
  • To count in fractions

Knowledge and Understanding of the World (Topic)

We will be continuing our climate topic in Science/Geography next week. We will be thinking about the different climates and looking at the different biomes (animals and plants that live there). We will then be comparing two of the different biomes and looking at what is similar and what is different. In Art we will be looking at different artists who use paper mache and looking at the different skills and techniques they use..

Religion and World Views

We will learn about a parable Jesus told about being rich and what he calls ‘The Kingdom of Heaven’. Christians believe that God has promised one day to make a new kingdom and put right all the wrong things. There will be nothing bad or sad in God’s new kingdom. And Jesus will be the King.

PSHE

This week we will be discussing how medicines work in our body and how important it is to use them safely. As well as  how to feel positive about caring for my body and keeping it healthy.
