Reception News – Term 2 Week 3

The children in reception have been working hard this week! They have been into the hall multiple times to practise singing for the nativity play, which seems to be creeping up on us!! In classes, teachers have read the story they will be acting out and children have chosen the part they want to play. Alongside this, they have started learning about the Christmas story in RE sessions. An assembly about advent will complement this on Monday afternoon.

In phonics, the children have learnt the phonemes w, x and y. They have extended their knowledge of tricky words by learning he and she. When reading with children, please remember to write in their reading record. We will also write in them when we are reading with the children. Each group has done some writing in their writing book. They have written at least one simple sentence each about what they can do e.g. I can jump/run/hop.

In maths, we have explored numbers 6 – 10 and had one as our special number of the day. The children have been looking out for that number during their planning time as well as during carpet sessions. Next week, we will be learning about 2D shapes so please look out for them in the environment and talk to the children about them.
